Say what you spent. Ask what you spent. Keep it private.

ExpenseTALK is a daily expense tracker you talk to. Type or dictate a plain sentence like "twelve fifty for lunch" or "$40 on gas", and it pulls out the amount and picks a category. Then ask it "how much did I spend this week?" and it answers on screen and out loud. Your spending history never leaves your device.

What it does

  • Understands how people say money: "$12", "12 bucks", "46 cents" or "twelve fifty" all work.
  • Speak instead of typing: tap the mic on your phone's keyboard, or press Windows key + H on a Windows PC, and say it.
  • Questions it answers: totals for today, this week or this month, a single category ("how much did I spend on food this month?"), and your biggest category. Say "undo" to take back the last entry.
  • 8 categories picked from your words. Fix one with its menu and it remembers that word next time.
  • See where it goes: a category ring and a seven-day bar chart, switchable between today, the past week and the month, plus quick buttons for your regular purchases and a logging streak.

Why your spending log should live with you

A record of what you buy, where and when says a great deal about you. Many expense apps want an account, a bank connection or a cloud copy to work. ExpenseTALK needs none of that: it makes no network connection at all, keeps your entries in your own browser, and works with the internet switched off. You decide when a copy leaves, by saving a CSV file.

What is in the download

  • One HTML file, expenseTALK.html, about 58 KB.
  • Nothing to install: open it in your web browser.
  • A phone-sized layout; on a computer it shows as one tidy column.

Start logging in two minutes

  1. Save the file and double-click it.
  2. In the "Say what you spent…" box, enter something like "$5 coffee" by voice or keyboard, then hit Enter.
  3. Now ask it a question that starts with "how much", for example "how much did I spend today?".
  4. Wrong category? Change it in the entry's drop-down and ExpenseTALK will file that word correctly from then on.
  5. Every so often, press Save for a CSV copy of everything.

Good to know

  • The talking is done by your phone or computer: its dictation turns your voice into words in the box, and ExpenseTALK reads those words. The app itself never switches on a microphone.
  • Spoken answers use your browser's built-in voice; switch them off in Settings.
  • Entries are stamped with the time you add them (there is no date picker), and you choose one currency symbol for everything.
  • Importing the same CSV twice never doubles your entries.
  • Light and dark looks follow your device.
  • Tested in Google Chrome on a computer, at phone and desktop widths. Phones differ in how they open a downloaded HTML file, and no real phone was part of the testing.

Questions buyers ask

Does it link to my bank? No. Nothing is imported from anywhere unless you import your own CSV file. That is the point: you log what you choose to log.

Can I move my history to a new computer? Yes. Press Save to download a CSV file, then use Settings, Import CSV on the other computer.
